Leadership and Self-Deception – The Arbinger institute — Along with it’s sequel “The Anatomy of Peace” this is perhaps my favorite book(s) of all time. This book takes the reader through a difficult self evaluation that shows us how we view other people. If you can make it to the end without having your feelings hurt you will start to see people on the same level as you regardless of their position or title. It can be a difficult read depending on your current view of people, so buckle down and commit to finish it.
How Will You Measure Your Life? – Clayton Christensen — Written by the father of disruptive innovation, Clayton Christensen applies business principles to life application. It’s an easy read that again, invokes lots of self evaluation of how you’re doing on many fronts. While it has the benefit of teaching you business principles, it is really focused on helping you add value to all aspects of your life.
Linchpin – Seth Godin— There is no better book to help one recognize the way fear can cripple us all and then help us learn to break through it to be indispensable. This is a book that bolsters courage and helps you recognize your self-worth and your ability to realize your true potential. It’s truly empowering. Other honorable mentions include The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg and The Willpower Instinct by Kelly McGonigal. So, whether your idea of self-help is to simply avoid ending up like the Kardashians, or if you’re still listening to Tony Robbins CD’s, these books will give you something to think about. And maybe they’ll even improve your work, your confidence and your relationships. What ways do you “self- help”?
